  • Family Ties Return to the Three Horseshoes

    🍻✨ Exciting News! ✨🍻

We’re delighted to share that Red Hogben has officially taken over the much loved Three Horseshoes pub! A real full circle moment for Red and his family, as his grandfather Ron proudly ran the Horseshoes from 1978 to 1987!

The pub is currently undergoing a programme of refurbishment, with plans to open for drinks in October.

Red’s vision for the pub is simple: to restore the Horseshoes as the heart of the community in Frampton – a ‘proper village pub’ where everyone feels welcome.

We can’t wait to open the doors and raise a glass with you all. 🍻

Stay tuned for updates here and follow us on Instagram too @threehorseshoesframpton.

  • Old Crown to Stay Open

As previously reported, Ann had finally announced her decision to retire from over 20 years at the helm of the Old Crown. Oak Taverns, the company that own the pub, were thankful of her and Brian and wished them a happy and well-deserved retirement.

Whilst some feared the pub closing and possibly being sold on, positive news shows a short refurbishment before reopening 14th August. Updates are available on their Facebook page.

  • Family reopen the King’s Head

The King’s Head at King’s Stanley has finally reopened after a few setbacks. On the radar of Stroud CAMRA as a vulnerable pub for many a month, it was reported earlier this year that a private buyer had bought the pub with a plan to reopen.

Sam Viggers and Jen Hawkins appear to have two cask lines which on the day of the Stroud Times photo shoot, consisted of Hop Union’s Classic Gold and Uley Bitter.

  • Another Rose Loses It’s Petals

The Rose Inn, Paganhill has closed. A.B. reported it was for sale some time ago but for a time after this it was still operating with the for-sale board on the building. More recently A.B. had passed it and reported no signs of life, so T.H walked round to confirm that it is indeed closed. It is not on the Punch list for lease & the for-sale board states the Freehold is available so presumably they are offloading.

  • King’s Head is Nearly There

Pub owner J.H. responded to Stroud Chair T.H. as it was understood the King’s Head, Kings Stanley was aiming for the end of June.

    Our three-part plan:
Initially we will be bar only – in a month or two, menus and locally sourced foods will be
widely available- the third part of the plan is accommodation- building works are already
complete- it is simply the soft furnishings to be added as the finishing touches
    We ARE nearly there!!

  • Rising Sun Community win further Award

The Rising Sun, in Woodcroft in the Forest of Dean, was sold to a developer in 2011 with a view to turn it into housing, but planning permission was denied.
The pub closed in 2011 and ex-patrons led a campaign to reopen it, achieving their aim in October 2022.

  • Protest at Plans for The Market Tavern, Stroud

It has been known as the Pelican, the Union, and the Market Tavern, however the current owners are proposing to demolish the establishment. The pub is currently boarded up and with graffiti-style hip-hop murals commissioned by the town council and has stood empty since 2014. The Town Council have initially backed the plan for demolition within the areas Neighbourhood Development Plan.

A protest took place at 2:00pm on Saturday 28th June, to protest at these plans and demand the building be retained and refurbished, ideally as a pub.

The Pelican was my favourite town pub, and I was a regular there from the moment I moved to Stroud in 1991.
